Non-Linear Narrative Installation Artist
             Media Artist & Developer, 1993-Present

    • Focused on larger narrative based storytelling through incremental user explored and discovered elements. My albums ‘Anderson, Ohio,’ (1994) & ‘The Riggley Road Stories’ (1995) were song cycles that included a host of explorative media (virtual environments, graphic novels, novellas, and stage production) for ancillary narrative embellishment.
    • Explored several virtual environments for promotion of Sweetfish recording artists for CD-ROM & Internet delivery systems.
    • “Dunsmore’s Fixall” - Parsons MFA thesis (2004) involving the design, iteration, and final production of a large scale installation that allowed gallery visitors to explore the garage workshop of a tinkering toysmith whose many projects, notebooks, and pieces of furniture revealed a vast and emotional narrative of loss. These elements were largely enriched by microcomputers, sensors, and actuators I built and programmed to trigger a wide range of media. I worked a great deal within this medium for over a decade, and showed many of the works at small galleries throughout New York
    • Currently completing an opera called “The Watcher” set to workshop in late 2017.

Sound Design
             Composer, Arranger, & Musician, 1993-Present

Video/Film

             Film Maker, 2000-Present

I have dabbled in film and video since childhood, and have been active as a film editor, composer, and sound designer for film and animation for almost twenty years. One of my largest installation projects revolves around the discovery and reunion with my birth family. ‘Nurturing Nature’ involves eight large multimedia installation pieces many including found media and recorded interviews, parts of which I used in the creation of a full documentary film called “Reunion.”

Game Design
             Game Designer & Author, 2012 - Present

    • After completing my work on the Hive Cooperative's game design textbook 'Einstein & the Honeybee,', My colleague Catherine Lewis and I received a National Science Foundation Advanced Technical Education grant with which we Developed curriculum for remedial math and introductory science classes at Hostos. This required the production of fully functional low cost game systems. To do so, I led a team of eight design students in developing and producing more than a dozen analog board and card games to address specific red flag learning systems identified by colleagues in the natural sciences and mathematics departments.
    • Colmena Design - formed collaborative game design group focused on games for social impact.

SOFTWARE PROFFICIENCY

I do a great deal of media development using a number of programs professionally, and am able to give instruction in all of the following software: ADOBE CREATIVE SUITE (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Flash, Premier), ProTools, Final Cut Pro, Logic, Microsoft Office, Prezi.

Teaching Philosophy

I have always been intrigued by the web of connections that exists between disciplines and the world at large, and have struggled to understand them and my relationship with them in order to be a productive student, artist, teacher and citizen.  This effort is grounded in my appreciation for the paradigm of the Renaissance man as artistic scientist. The artistic scientist has a foundation in inspiration creating original work by means of combining technical understanding with observation, analysis and intuition.

In my studies I have found that the most creative minds of history pushed the boundaries of a given field by drawing from other disciplines, and that the most successful students of the world must follow suit.

As our world grows ever smaller, with the growth of its population and the increasingly sophisticated intercommunication of that population, the ability to recognize and draw from such connections grows ever more crucial.  It is my goal to help foster the artistic scientist in each of my students.
